Latin
America's Shift to the Left
April 13, 2006
Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Prague, Czech Republic
The increase of forces hostile
to democracy in Latin America
should trouble European leaders,
especially in nations that have
themselves suffered from communist
ideology. The seminar
will highlight the growth of
leftist regimes in Latin America,
including the cooperation of
Hugo Chavez with Fidel Castro,
and evaluate left-wing presidents
in Bolivia, Brasil and Chile.
Likewise the resurgence of Sandinistas
in Nicaragua will be considered.
EICEE's Civic Insitute in Prague
is proud to welcome Mr. Tomas
Pojar, Deputy Minister of Foreign
Affairs, as one of the main
speakers. Mr. Pojar is
recognized as a leader in human
rights and pro-democracy
efforts in Cuba and Belarus.
Professor Vladimir Nalevka has
also confirmed his participation.
The eminent Czech historian
of the 20th Century and
Cold War period is an expert
on the Cuban missile crisis
of 1962.
