230th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
5th anniversary of 9/11

September, 2006
Prague, Czech Republic

The Declaration of Independence remains not only a symbol of free society but a model expression of such a society's basic tenets.  EICEE's Civic Institute is organizing this conference to highlight the perennial principles of the American Founding and indicate their relevance for the promotion of justice and freedom in every time and place.  After more than two centuries, the continued value of this document invites us to look more closely at the philosophy of natural rights and natural law.

Taking place in close proximity to the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the conference will also commemorate this watershed event.  By reviewing the war against terrorism since 9/11 in light of the founding ideals of the United States of America, the conference will illustrate the power of noble ideas to maintain the stability of a nation even under the most extreme circumstances.
