August 8-13, 2005
Dr. Josef Glasa

In addition to his duties as professor and clinical researcher at Comenius University, Dr. Glasa is a member of the Steering Committee on Bioethics at the Council of Europe. He is also the founding editor of the journal Medical Ethics & Bioethics, as well as co-editor of several textbooks on medical ethics, nursing ethics, and bioethics. Since October 2005 he serves on a select advisory committee at the European Committee in Brussels, the European Group of Ethics (EGE).

Uniquely qualified to teach bioethics to students from Central and Eastern Europe, Dr. Glasa was EICEEs guest in Vienna for an intensive course in medical issues of our time.

Over 60 graduate students from 16 countries participated in the course. They came from leading universities in Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, and Russia.

I regained the notions of morality, the notions of ethics as presented by thinkers I have respected all my years."
