August 8-13, 2005
Dr. Jan A. Aertsen

Dr. Jan Aertsen is Professor Emeritus of philosophy at the University of Cologne (Germany). Dr. Aertsen challenged his audience of 60-70 graduate students from a variety of academic fields to think beyond the limits set by many modern philosophers, especially within the Soviet ambit.

Dr. Aertsen invited students to explore the ground and conditions necessary as a foundation to practical discourse and critical before the formulation of human action and social policies.

Since 1999, Dr. Aertsen has also been a visiting director at l'Ecole Practique des Hautes Etudes in Paris, in addition to giving courses at universities in Louvain, Toronto and Cologne.

In 1998 he delivered the Dietrich von Hildebrand Memorial Lectures at Fordham University in New York (USA).
