Ambassador Irena Lipowicz

Ambassador Irena Lipowicz served
as Polish ambassador to Austria
from 2000-2004 and is Professor
of Professional Law at the Kardinal
Stefan Wyszynski University
in Warsaw. Professor Lipowicz
has been politically active
as a Member of Parliament in
Poland and as a member of the
Solidarity Movement.
Ambassador Lipowicz drew upon
her long and intense involvement
with the Solidarity movement
to communicate to the assembled
dignitaries and more than 150
students from over 35 countries
what made the Solidarity movement
a force for change of historical
proportions.
Her talk and her intervention
at the closing panel was not
only informative but inspiring.
The Ambassador articulated the
sorts of social virtues needed
to persevere under extreme circumstances
in the fight for freedom and
justice. Her observations were
of obvious relevance to future
leaders in every epoch and nation.
