My Experience
with Communism
November 5, 2004
H.I.H. Archduke Otto von Habsburg

H.I.H. Archduke Otto von Habsburg
is the eldest son of the last
Emperor of Austria, Charles
I. From 1979 to 1999 H.I.H. von
Habsburg served as a Member
of the European Parliament.
A prolific author, he has published
thirty-five books in nine languages
on topics of history and politics
and has received numerous awards,
orders, and honorary doctoral
degrees.
H.I.H. von Habsburg spoke at the
opening dinner of our three-day
conference entitled Human
Dignity and the Failure of Communism.
From his unique perspective
at the highest levels of European
politics for much of the last
century, H.I.H. von Habsburg spoke
of the attraction of communist
ideology among many in the West
both yesterday and today.
The principles at stake remain
at stake, he told the young
people in the audience, calling
them to devote their lives to
a vigilant, persevering fight
for justice.
