A serious obstacle to the educative process in Central and Eastern Europe is the lack of availability of essential reading material, especially in local languages.The effect of years of censorship, stifling independent expression, needs to be overcome and practical difficulties addressed.

EICEE immediately began to establish translation teams and acquire the rights to print texts which have won acclaim for their classic expression of important ideas in social theory.

Additional publishing projects in the area of periodicals and scholarly journals aim to stimulate the growth of independent media.
